CDL Holders Receive Self Certification Letter
Updated On: Nov 321, 2013
Why did I get this letter? Letters were sent to Indiana CDL drivers who had not completed the new self-certification process as of January 14, 2013. The new process requires CDL drivers to certify to the BMV the type of commercial motor vehicles that they operate, or intend to operate, as well as acknowledge that they are required to meet the medical requirements for that CDL. If you received a letter but have recently completed a CDL transaction in a branch, you do not need to do anything more. How can I tell if I have self-certified? If you have received this letter and completed a CDL transaction after January 14, 2013, you have already completed the process. How do I self-certify? The quickest way to self-certify is online at myBMV.com. Self-certifying online is free and easy. If your CDL expires in 2013, you will self-certify during your renewal transaction. Do I need to send in my medical certificate also? No, all Indiana drivers are required to submit their medical examination and certificate prior to issuance of a Commercial Driver?s License or Commercial Driver?s License Learner Permit. This information is already on file and drivers are not required to resubmit their medical certificate as part of the self-certification. You may use our automated system to verify that your medical certificate is on file by calling 888-692-6841. How do I know if I am interstate or intrastate? (Questions number one (1) and two (2)) You should only certify that you intend to operate intrastate if you have the K ? Intrastate restriction (operating a CDL only within the boundaries of Indiana) on your Commercial Driver?s License or Commercial Driver?s License Learner Permit. I do not understand question #3 on the self certification form. This question is asking if you were eligible to receive your Commercial Driver?s License (CDL) or Commercial Driver?s License Learner Permit (CLP) without filing a Medical Examination and Certificate with the BMV prior to issuance. All Indiana CDL or CLP applicants are required to submit a Medical Examination and Certificate prior to issuance. I did not receive a letter but someone I know did. Am I affected? If you processed a CDL or CDL Learner Permit transaction between December 11, 2011 and January 22, 2013, you do not need to self-certify again. Also if you have self-certified online at myBMV.com, you do not need to do so again. Link to Self Certify-http://www.in.gov/bmv/2854.htm
