Red Cross Employees Choose Teamsters Local 414!

American Red Cross workers in Fort Wayne, Indiana organized their union with Teamsters Local 414 on April 24, 2017, through an overwhelming majority on a card check agreement. These workers contacted Teamsters Local 414 in December 2016. On April 4, 2017 the bargaining unit employees notified the American Red Cross of their intent, to become recognized, and to negotiate a local contract under the National American Red Cross Addendum. American Red Cross workers simply wanted a VOICE and RESPECT in their work place. The bargaining unit includes fixed site blood collections, mobile collections, mobile unit assistants, material handlers and truck drivers. Mobile collection staff travel to work throughout the state collecting blood to supply hospitals in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky. These employees drive and work long hours to follow the mission statement of the American Red Cross. Teamsters Local 414 is proud to bring these 142 new members on board. Teamsters Local 414 Secretary-Treasurer, George Gerdes,"... looks forward to using our negotiating experience to bring American Red Cross workers the VOICE and RESPECT that comes with a Teamster contract." Bargaining unit employees will receive Team-Care insurance, per agreement, within 60 days. Negotiations for a Local contract will begin in the near future.
